Andrés de Santa Cruz
The short-lived Supreme Protector of the Peru-Bolivian Confederation from 1836-1839. Was the driving force behind the creation of the Confederation. He was born in Bolivia, was President of Peru in 1827 and then became the president of Bolivia in 1829. While he was president of Bolivia he was looking for ways to join the country with Peru.
Agustín Gamarra
President of Peru twice, once from 1829-1833 and again after Santa Cruz had to leave the country after his Confederation fell, from 1838-1841. Gamarra was of mixed Spanish and Quechua decent, or Mestizo. He disliked the native Incas and their hatred of them was a factor in his defeat by Santa Cruz.
Luis José de Orbegoso
President of Peru before the Confederation, during a time of much chaos. recieved assistance from Andr(e)s de Santa Cruz when dealing with Felipe Santiago Salaverry. This allowed for Santa Cruz to enter Peru and work on joining the countries together. Orbegoso supported Santa Cruz, and helped in forming the Treaty and became the President of North Peru during the Confederation.
